Thieves target York bridge cafés

Mon 4 Feb, 2013 by Press Release

Issued by North Yorkshire Police

York police are investigating after two cafés were broken into in the city centre.

Large quantities of food and drink were stolen during both burglaries which occurred overnight between Sunday 27 January and Monday 28 January 2013.

Offenders targeted Dyl’s Café Bar on Skeldergate Bridge, which is currently undergoing renovation work, and Hartley’s Café on Lendal Bridge.

It is believed that the suspects carried the stolen goods from Hartley’s Café using a large blue food tray.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious on Lendal Bridge or Skeldergate Bridge around the time of the incidents to get in touch.

PC Amy Littlejohns, of York City and East Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Both locations are fairly busy with people and traffic, even after dark, and I am appealing to anyone who was out and about last Sunday night to contact the police or Crimestoppers if they saw any unusual behaviour.”

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Amy Littlejohns or York City and East Safer Neighbourhood Team.

If you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
