Cinders has gone to the ball dozens of times this winter, and now she can finally kick off her glass slippers and put her feet up for a well-earned rest.

York Theatre Royal’s pantomime Cinderella closed on Saturday (January 28) following what the theatre calls an “incredibly successful run” back in the theatre following its £6 million redevelopment.

According to tradition, writer, co-director and Britain’s longest consecutive serving panto dame Berwick Kaler announced the name of the pantomime for 2017-18 at that show: Jack and the Beanstalk.

Berwick said:

It’s a traditional title with all the freedom and scope to turn it into the funniest version ever inflicted on an audience in search of a plot!

Tickets for Jack and the Beanstalk will go on sale in person only on Wednesday, March 1 from the York Theatre Royal Box Office.

Diverse programme

A three-hander: Murder, Margaret and Me

This season sees a diverse programme of work at the theatre, including a world premiere production of Murder, Margaret and Me.

There’s also a co-production of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall with Octagon Theatre Bolton as well as a summer show, the brand-new Robin Hood: The Arrow of Destiny.

In June and July York Theatre Royal will once again with Pilot Theatre stage a large-scale community production Everything is Possible, the story of York’s Suffragettes, which will be performed on the streets of York and in the main house by a cast of 150.
