York footballers are swapping their boots for bikes to battle each other in a cycle treasure hunt next month.

On Saturday, March 4 the Jorvik Blades football team are splitting into two teams of six to embark on a 20 mile circular trail.

You can donate via the event crowdfunding page here

The journey along our city’s cycle paths will see the footballers answering questions and performing tasks in order to progress and beat the other team.

All the money they raise will be split between the Lord Mayor’s charities: York Racial Equality Network, York LGBT Forum, St Nicks and York Civic Trust.

Casey Want from Jorvik Blades FC said: “As a team we’re very proud and happy to be supporting the Lord Mayor’s charities.

“It’s nice to be giving something back and hopefully the hunt will be a good warm up for our last game of the season two hours later. If we lose, we have a great excuse.”

‘A great event’

Lord Mayor of York Dave Taylor

The York based cycle business, Re-Cycle, decided to launch the opening of their new premises on Walmgate by hosting this hunt which will start and end at their shop.

Re-Cycle specialises in second hand bikes and has a goal to make transport affordable for all.

Lord Mayor of York Dave Taylor said:

York has some wonderful parks and trails just waiting to be explored and anything that helps make them more accessible for residents by bicycle or foot, is a step, or in this case a pedal, in the right direction.

This will be a great event and I hope it will continue in the future.

The Lord Mayor himself will welcome the teams back to the shop as they finish the trail.

Get on your bike and head down to cheer the Jorvik Blades on and donate through their crowdfunding page.
