The Accessible Arts & Media Musical Express is ready to depart – will you be on board?

York charity Accessible Arts & Media (AAM) is taking its ground-breaking group of inclusive musicians on a transport-themed musical tour of York, called Inclusive Music – Get on Board!

AAM is a charity connecting local communities, people with disabilities and young people across York & North Yorkshire. Running creative music and arts projects where the achievements and aspirations of everyone are celebrated regardless of their circumstances.

Inclusive Music – Get on Board! showcases the talents and abilities of young musicians from York and the East Riding with disabled and non-disabled young people coming together to perform as equals.

It kicks off with a free event, open to all at the National Railway Museum on Saturday, March 16 with the nationally-acclaimed Hands & Voices singing and signing choir joined by Inclusive Music Projects (IMPs) singing and signing choirs and music technology composition groups.

Bob Noble from the National Railway Museum said: “We want to make the story of railways told in our museum accessible to everyone, so we’re really chuffed we’re hosting this transport-themed event with AAM.”

Inclusive Music – Get on Board! concludes at the York St John University Chapel on Wednesday, March 20 at 7.30pm with an eclectic mix of performances from Hands & Voices, this time joined by student ensembles from the respected music degree course, including Harmony Hands and Samba Band.

Rose Kent, AAM managing director, said: “We’re so proud to be performing again at York St John University, as we celebrate our 21st year working in partnership to inspire a legacy of inclusive music in York.”

  • Tickets (£5, Concessions £3) are available at the York St John University online box office and on the door
