It must rank as one of York police’s most unusual call outs.

Officers responded to reports that a woman was walking along Parliament Street with a seagull on a lead.

On arrival, officers discovered that the seagull was injured.

A 44-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with:

  • using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment
  • taking a wild bird
  • injuring a wild bird.

The seagull had injuries to its head and wing. It was taken from the woman and checked over by a vet. Sadly, its injuries were so severe it had to be put down.

Police were called to the incident at about 11.34am on Wednesday June 28.

The woman is due to appear at York Magistrates at 9.30am on July 14.
