Drink up! Wine-on-tap bar coming to York

A new style of bar is coming to York’s new style of business park.

Spark:York, the box park being created from upcycled shipping containers on Piccadilly, will soon be home to a wine-on-tap bar.

This is the brainchild of Katherine and Vaughan Lewis. They started their business, Liquid Liberation, earlier this year – selling vino from York’s first mobile wine on-tap bar.

Built on the back of a 16-year old Italian Piaggio three-wheeled van, the bar was hand crafted in York from 150-year-old reclaimed timber.

Now they plan to move into Spark:York to keep the party going.

Direct from the keg

They’ve started something… Vaughan and Katherine Lewis from Liquid Liberation

Katherine and Vaughan were inspired by the craft ales and street food revolution of recent years and their travels to the US and Japan.

They believe there is a market here for people just like them, who love great wine without the traditional formalities associated with drinking it.

So what is wine-on-tap? It delivers the drink direct from the keg, and is able to deliver high quality wines at prices that would be far more expensive by the bottle.

And it’s a greener way to drink, doing away with the need for bottles or other extra packaging.

Part of food revolution

Vaughan said Spark:York was the ideal place for their first static home.

“Being part of the Spark community gives us the perfect creative platform to do for wine what the street food revolution has done for fine dining – championing sensational produce from all corners of the world in a socially inclusive and fun way,” he said.

“We can’t wait to bring the wine on-tap revolution to York.”

Spark director Tom Mackenzie felt it was the right fit too: “Our aim is to revolutionise the way people socialise and work in York, by transforming a derelict piece of land on Piccadilly into a buzzing, thriving hub of activity, focusing on the early evening economy and European-style of family friendly eating and drinking.

“We’re delighted to have the team at Liquid Liberation on board, who fit perfectly with our vision and ambition – I’m sure they will be a resounding success.”
