One of Britain’s best loved writers and comedians was in York today.

David Walliams went on a tour round the National Railway Museum, and seemed to have a thoroughly enjoyable trip.

The Little Britain star said in a Tweet:

  • I loved visiting the railway museum⁩ today which I last went to when I was 12.

It is a treasure trove of famous locomotives and trains.

My dad worked on the railways as an engineer and my granddad gave me a Hornby⁩ train-set when I was 8 so I am something of an enthusiast.

He also tweeted out this picture of one of the museum’s most famous locos…

David, who is beloved by youngsters for his amazing range of best-selling children’s books, received a lot of love on Twitter – as did the NRM.

“I love that museum. Most I find boring but York Railway Museum is really interesting,” said Michele Rickard.

And Katherine Birkett agreed. “I paid a visit to the museum last year as part of my 40th birthday celebrations. A fantastic place which I will go back to see some time soon! Hope you enjoyed your visit!”

Just turned up at the NRM in York to interview the director and bumped into @davidwalliams looking at trains.

I love York. Spoiled for choice on fabulous places to see, and fascinating things to do. @railwaymuseum @YorkCastle @JorvikViking the Minster, the city walls, the Snickelways. Lucky you.
