York Music Hub Festival

Thu 30 May, 2013 by Press Release

Issued by City of York Council

City of York Council will be presenting two concerts to showcase the amazing musical talent of young people from across the city in its annual York Music Hub Festival.

This musical celebration is open to the public and this year the festival’s concerts will take place at the Grand Opera House, on Saturday 22 June at 2pm and at 7.30pm. They will feature groups from City of York schools, York Arts Academy and the Wider Opportunities scheme where whole classes learn musical instruments together.

Councillor Janet Looker, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People said: “This end of year celebration has been taking place for over 15 years and it is always a joy to listen to.

“Performers range from age 7 to 18 and, whatever your taste in music, there’s something for everyone to enjoy from orchestras and choirs to groups and ensembles. Come along and see tomorrow’s stars as today’s talent!”

The afternoon performance will include choirs, rock bands and string groups from a number of primary schools, and will feature a grand finale by massed Wider Opportunities primary pupils who have been learning a whole range of musical instruments with their classes.

The evening concert will feature ensembles from York Arts Academy including Folk Groups, Strings Groups, Big Band, Brass and Woodwind Ensemble and Senior Orchestra.

Tickets are available from the Grand Opera House, Clifford Street, York in person or by calling 0844 871 3024 or online. Prices are £6 for adults, £3.50 for concessions and are free for those under 18. For those attending both performances discounts are available to adults (£10) and concessions (£6).
