West Bank Park is taking centre stage in the community on Sunday when the annual summer fair will transform this award-winning park.
Councillor Sonja Crisp, City of York Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “The annual event is organised jointly by the Friends of West Bank Park in partnership with City of York Council. The Friends work hard to help us maintain this great green space in the heart of Holgate. With the park’s Green Flag award proudly flying, the event, on Sunday 30 June will run from 1pm until 4pm and promises entertainment for everyone.
“Besides a spectacular Birds of Prey display, there will be a dog show which can be entered on the day, with fun categories such as pooch with the Best Trick and Waggiest Tail.”
There will be a bouncy castle and a climbing wall while for those who prefer to watch and listen, people can pull up a chair for musical entertainment from local children while enjoying refreshments served by 1st Holgate Scouts.
Over 20 community stalls will be run by groups selling cakes or plants, running games and tombolas while showing people the sort of work they do and the chance to get involved.
There will also be face painting and henna tattooing, and a chance to try your hand at playing bowls on the park’s greens. Why not try arts and crafts activities including storytelling, juggling and willow weaving?
Entry is free but no parking is available on-site so all visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport. West Bank Park is in Holgate with entrances on Acomb Road, New Lane and Hamilton Drive.
