A huge expansion of York Designer Outlet could bring 25 new shops and restaurants to the centre.

Owners McArthurGlen say the development will create around 500 retail and construction jobs “and £3.6 million in additional employment income”.

The plans also include 630 additional parking spaces and an improved Park & Ride facility. This would reduce road congestion even while adding to the 4.5 million visitors, McArthurGlen says.

It is now holding two public consultation days on the plans. They will take place on these dates:

  • Friday 27 June @ 3-7pm
  • Saturday 28 June @ 10am-2pm.

McArthurGlen wants to improve the centre’s Park & Ride service by creating a new terminus relocated to a new area of the site with an improved circulation plan.

The extra 630 parking spaces “will help to reduce local congestion, alleviating traffic pressures on the A19 Fulford Road corridor,” developers say.

The public consultations are an opportunity for local residents and shoppers to find out more about the plans and provide their feedback ahead of a planning application being submitted later in the summer.

Centre manager at York Designer Outlet Mike Thomas said:

  • We are excited to talk to shoppers and local residents about our proposals which will create an even better shopping experience and also help to resolve the pressures on parking that we sometimes experience.

By improving and relocating the Park & Ride facility, which has been a huge success story, we’ll also be able to commit to its long-term future on our site – ensuring its environmental and congestion benefits are in place for decades to come.

We’re proud to have been a successful part of York’s retail offer for over 20 years and are looking forward to delivering a significant investment here that signals our confidence in the city and will create hundreds of new jobs.

Public consultation events:

Date: Friday 28th June 2019
Time: 3pm-7pm
