He’s better known for stirring up emotions with his soulful singing than for whisking up a top Yorkshire pud.

But John Newman hit the York Roast Co on Low Petergate to show what he could do with a batter mix.

The musician, best-known for his number one hit Love Me Again, was joining the Great Yorkshire Pudding Challenge.

Launched by the York Roast Co, inventors of smash-hit fast food the Yorky Pud wrap, the challenge has set out to find the next ground-breaking Yorkshire pudding creation.

Originally from Settle, John is a big fan of the delicacy. With his band, John handed out free samples to shoppers ahead of his sell-out gig at the Crescent Community Venue.

In partnership with York BID and the Cookery School at The Grand, the York Roast Co created the Yorkshire pudding challenge for foodies across the UK.

To enter, dream up a dazzling new food sensation involving the humble Yorkshire pud, before uploading
photos of your tempting creation to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

A selection of aspiring cooks will be chosen by the public to take part in the final, presenting their creations to a panel of experts before the winner is crowned.

The final will take place on 1 August at the Grand Cookery School as part of a big Yorkshire Day celebration organised by the York BID, which includes a free film show, shopping trail and more.

Yorkshire Pudding Challenge judges include the Cookery School’s Andrew Dixon as well as the current World Yorkshire Pudding Champion Christopher Blackburn.

The winner will bag an overnight stay at The Grand, a Cookery School experience and £100 worth of The York Roast Co vouchers.
