It wouldn’t be the weekend without a storm.

And this one is called Storm Jorge.

Parts of northern England could see between 60 to 80mm of rain on Friday as the storm hits the UK, the Met Office warned.

Strong winds are then forecast for much of England, including York, reaching up to 60mph.

It could cause further disruption on public transport – adding to the problems caused by King’s Cross Station in London being shut all weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for a 24-hour period from midday on Saturday.

England has received over 200% of its average February rainfall, according to the Environment Agency, with some areas experiencing a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours.

The heavy rainfall could cause York’s rivers to rise again. City of York Council is keeping its temporary flood defences in place for the time being.
