An empty York pub could soon be demolished and replaced with houses.

The Puss N Boots, on the corner of Hamilton Drive and Harlow Road in Acomb, closed in September 2018.

According to planning documents lodged with City of York Council, there was an initial possibility of it reopening after the pub was marketed by Barry Crux.

“Barry Crux and Co commented that a couple of individuals expressed interest in purchasing the site and reopening the pub; however, when the finances were looked at in greater detail this was not a viable option,” the documents state.

“No offers were received from any individuals or company looking to retain the public house.”

The current owner is the CVS Group, which runs 500 veterinary surgeries in the UK and EU.

It submitted plans last April to turn the pub into a vets.

But its new application is to demolish the Puss N Boots, and build five three-bedroom houses in its place.

“The current access to the site will be altered for the proposals to allow private access for each individual dwelling,” documents state.

“The site lies in a sustainable location with good access to a range of services and facilities, employment opportunities and sustainable transport modes including travel by bus, on foot or by cycle.

“The impact on the amenity of existing and future residents has been shown to be acceptable.”

In recent months two applications were submitted to demolish the Magnet on Osbaldwick Lane and replace it with homes.

But, after a public backlash, it has been listed back for sale since January.

And the Four Alls beside the A64 near Stockton on the Forest is earmarked for demolition, despite objections by York Civic Trust and others.

It would be replaced by two five-bedroom houses.
