Join the National Centre for Early Music for a celebration of music for spring with their ‘Awaken’ festival.
‘Awaken’ will feature some of the UK’s most acclaimed musicians, and will celebrate the range of historic venues in the city and the connection between York and the beauty of music of the past. The festival will take place over two days; Saturday 27 March and Sunday 28 March.

The festival will begin with a musical whistle stop tour led by the renowned all male vocal group The Gesualdo Six. The journey shows off some of the city’s most beautiful buildings, including Holy Trinity Church, St Olave’s Church, and the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall.
Also performing over the two days are the internationally acclaimed countertenor Iestyn Davies performing with the instrumental viol specialists Fretwork, BBC New Generation Artists the Consone Quartet performing Schubert’s magnificent Quintet with cellist Alexander Rolton, and rising stars Ensemble Augelletti. The grand finale comes from I Fagiolini, with a concert filmed in York and directed by Robert Hollingworth. They are joined by the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble to present a multi-choir extravaganza of music from the Italian Renaissance.

[We] are very excited to be able to show off some of the city’s architectural gems which provide us with a fitting backdrop for the glorious music. We hope you’ll join us for these sublime sounds of spring.”
A weekend pass is available for £40, with individual concerts at £10. The concerts will be available on demand to watch until 30 April.
