Date confirmed for Gerald the cat sculpture to be installed at York church featured on Gentleman Jack

Sun 17 Apr, 2022 by David Dunning

The big reveal: Sculpture of Gerald the York Minster Cat will be unveiled in April 2021 by actor Mark Addy

The installation of a sculpture in memory of Gerald, the Minster Cat, will now happen in May.

Plans to celebrate the life of the distinctive Bengal cat, famous with visitors and locals in York, were put on hold last year.

It was due to take place at the Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate, a location that Gerald liked to explore. However, for personal reasons, the Yorkshire Vet, Julian Norton, wasn’t able to make the first date.

It has now been confirmed that it will take place now on Friday May 6th at 10:00am instead.

His owner, Justine Spencer, told YorkMix Radio:

“Following the initial unveiling of the Gerald sculpture by Mark Addy at the Cat Gallery last year, we’ve now managed to get a second date for the installation where the sculpture will be permanently placed.

“And that will still be at Holy Trinity Church off Goodramgate. It’s happening on May 6th which is a Friday,

“I’m very pleased to say we’ve got the incredible Yorkshire vet, Julia Norton, to do the ceremony too.

“So it will be amazing. I’m very excited about it.” She added.

Holy Trinity Church has been featured on the TV recently in scenes shot for the BBC TV Series Gentleman Jack.
