The people of Ripon and their political representatives have a chance to voice their concerns about policing in the city this Monday evening (16 May 2022)
North Yorkshire Police is holding a community engagement event to share the current crime statistics and trends in Ripon, provide residents with an operational overview of how the area is currently policed and also look at proposed plans for the future.
Their concerns are often repeated in other communities across York and North Yorkshire.

The meeting will be chaired by Ripon Neighbourhoods Inspector Alex Langley.
City council leader Andrew Williams said: “I have spoken to literally hundreds of residents in recent weeks who are very unhappy with the way Ripon is policed.
“I know that this is a major issue for many and I will certainly be attending this meeting along with other Independent Councillors.
“Please come and join us and collectively let us get the message across that things need to change and quickly.”
Police say:
“Following the presentation, you will be invited to highlight any community issues, tensions or criminality that is affecting you directly to the Neighbourhood officers for awareness and discussion.
“We are aware some of these issues you may not feel comfortable discussing in person so we will be providing contact details for local officers and Crimestoppers so that you can either provide details digitally at a later date or confidentially through Crimestoppers.
“The purpose of this meeting is to ensure your voice is heard with regards to how your community is policed.
“By voicing your concerns directly to us you will enable North Yorkshire Police to target and tailor our resources and plans to better meet your needs and prevent issues or escalation in your community.
“This is an open invite to all local residents, concerned people and partner agencies that are concerned in community support to come along and provide your perspective.
“We look forward to seeing you there.”

Inspector Alex Langley was on YorkMix Radio in February 2021 when he discussed the issue of anti-social behaviour in the city.
In March 2022 Independent and Conservative councillors on Ripon City Council made a formal complaint about the lack of police action on crime.
They said Ripon residents are fed up with the numerous incidents of trouble on the streets and that phoning 101 is next to pointless.
They told YorkMix‘s North Yorkshire news pages they felt Ripon has lost confidence in the North Yorkshire force.
