Two people were treated for the effects of smoke inhalation after rescuing their cat from their home after it caught fire.
Fire crews were alerted to the incident at Church Fenton at 4.46am today (Sunday).
One of the residents only discovered the kitchen fire after it had gone out. It had caused damage to two kitchen units.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said two women had gone back inside their home after calling 999 to look for their cat.
They said: “The females were led to safety from the kitchen on fire crews arrival, as the kitchen was still smoke logged, and given oxygen therapy – as was the pet cat.
“An ambulance was requested for the two females.”
