Car parking in York is at a critical junction.
Plans to close the Castle car park and turn the space around Clifford’s Tower into a pocket park and public realm have been widely welcomed.
The Castle Gateway scheme envisaged the lost parking spaces would be relocated to a new multi-storey car park to be built on St George’s Field.
That has received planning permission – but now looks in doubt. If it is scrapped, businesses have warned they could withdraw their support for the Castle Gateway project.
Meanwhile campaigners say that York’s car park policy is based on inadequate information, and we are planning to build more spaces that we don’t need – just when we should be cutting car use in response to the climate emergency.
So we want your help.
YorkMix has teamed up with the York BID (Business Improvement District) to launch a York car park survey.
We want York residents to tell us about your city centre car park use. The data – all entirely anonymous – will then be forwarded to the key decision makers in the city to help them shape a parking strategy for York that works for everybody.
Thank you in advance for your time!
