The original surfing dudes and one of the world’s legendary bands the Beach Boys are heading to York this summer.
They will headline the first day of the Music Showcase at York Races, with Wet Wet Wet performing the following evening.
The Beach Boys will take to the stage after the final race of the meeting on Friday, July 25.
Often called “America’s Band” they have sold in excess of 100 million records worldwide.
Fronted by co-founder Mike Love and with more than 80 chart records to choose from, the Beach Boys set list could include classics like Good Vibrations, Little Deuce Coupe, Sloop John B, Surfin’ USA, Fun Fun Fun, God Only Knows and Wouldn’t It Be Nice.
This version of the band is led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, who along with Christian Love, Randell Kirsch, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill and Scott Totten.
They have toured as the Beach Boys regularly since 1998 when Carl Wilson passed away. The show does not include Brian Wilson, Al Jardine or David Marks.
Successful all male bands are a theme this year as Saturday 26 July hosts Wet Wet Wet.
The band produced some of the UK’s best loved pop songs of recent years, including hits such as Sweet Little Mystery, Wishing I Was Lucky and Goodnight Girl.
Their biggest international hit was Love Is All Around, which featured on the soundtrack to the film Four Weddings and A Funeral and topped the UK charts for a record breaking 15 weeks in 1994.
The Music Showcase weekend is the only evening meeting of York Racecourse’s year.
Featured races include the European Breeders’ Fund Lyric Stakes and the Sky Bet York Stakes, a Group Two race with £100,000 in prize money.
