What a night that was.
It involved someone shooting at squirrels, a naked man causing upset at a campsite, and a plot to ride a mobility scooter from York to Doncaster.
We’ve documented some of the more serious incidents logged by North Yorkshire Police during their 12-hour #NYPfor12 tweetathon elsewhere.
Here are some of the more unusual incidents reported to the Force Control Room between 2pm yesterday and 2am this morning (Saturday).
2.37pm – Caller reports a large amount of cannabis has been found in a workplace locker. Officers to attend
3.20pm – Call from Asda supermarket who are with a very drunk man who wants to speak to the police. We spoke to the man, he was very incoherent and slurring his words. We have advised him to go the police station which is just up the road.
4.24pm – A York shop worker has reported a man stealing bottles of detergent this afternoon. Although he made a clean getaway, we have a good description of him
5.06pm – Report of a neighbour shooting at squirrels in the Scarborough district. Appropriate advice has been given to the caller
- Man knocked unconscious in spate of attacks in York
- Man drove off from York pub after drinking six pints – while ‘drunken’ group ride e-scooters
- Victim of WhatsApp ‘sextortion’ says they are being blackmailed for thousands of pounds

8.25pm – Call from a couple stranded in a field of cows. Cows were becoming aggressive and the pair had run to the safety of a pen in the middle of the field. Officer trying to locate the farmer but another call received to say the couple have made it to safety
10.54pm – Caller concerned for a man who plans to travel from York to Doncaster on a mobility scooter. As light-hearted as it may seem, we’re concerned he might be vulnerable and could put himself in danger. We’re attending the area to look for the man & ensure his safety
12.34am – Reports of a naked man wondering round and behaving inappropriately at a camp site. Officers are at the scene
12.38am – Call reporting a man swimming in the sea in Scarborough Under the influence of alcohol and concerns for his safety. The lifeboat was called but then cancelled as the man was out of the water and okay apart from a bit chilly!
2.02am – And that’s a wrap.
