York community campaigner Gordon Campbell-Thomas is facing a re-trial over claims he raped a young woman at his home.
Mr Campbell-Thomas, 72, walked free last week after a jury at York Crown Court was unable to reach verdicts on two allegations of rape following a three-day trial.
The prosecution told judge Simon Hickey they would be seeking a re-trial yesterday (Thursday).
The judge set a trial date of April 11 next year. It is expected to last two-to-three days.
Mr Campbell-Thomas, a former York City Council election candidate and founder member of the St Nicks Nature Reserve in York, was accused of raping the woman, who was in her 20s, at his flat on the outskirts of the city.
The prosecution alleged that he raped the woman twice either late at night on November 14, 2020, or in the early hours of the following morning.
Mr Campbell-Thomas, of Ascot Way, York, denied the allegations, insisting that he and the woman had consensual sex.

The alleged victim, who is from York but can’t be named for legal reasons, claimed she didn’t consent to sex.
Mr Campbell-Thomas, who was not required to attend today’s hearing, was granted bail before next year’s re-trial.
