Christmas has arrived at Castle Howard – and is bringing your favourite fairytales to life in a spectacular festive experience.

Meet a host of storybook characters, see couples waltzing round the ballroom, and hear the sound of horse-drawn pumpkins in a series of theatrical installations, projections and soundscapes.

Into the Woods: A Fairytale Christmas is at Castle Howard from Saturday 12 November 2022 to Monday 2 January 2023.

After the sell-out success of last year’s Christmas in Narnia experience, Charlotte Lloyd Webber Event Design and The Projection Studio have returned to transform the grand rooms of Castle Howard into faraway kingdoms and magical forests.

“This year, we’ve taken all the classic fairytales that we all know and love so well and we’ve mashed them all up to create a special Christmas narrative that moves through the house,” said Charlotte Lloyd Webber.

Visitors will meet characters such as Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, and Red Riding Hood who are all running away from their various foes – before all coming together on a journey into the woods.

Don’t wake Sleeping Beauty

“There are lovely surprises,” continued Charlotte. “We have a fantastic finale, which is the story of Cinderella in the long gallery.

“The team have worked spectacularly hard on it.

“It is going to be truly magical.”

A magnificent Christmas Tree

After touring around the Christmas experience, why not enjoy a festive afternoon tea with Hansel and Gretel’s Cake Basket and King’s Orders Sandwich Platter. The ‘Happily Ever Afternoon Tea’ is £29.95 per person.

On the way out, make a stop in the gift shop for a bit of Christmas shopping – find a unique gift or a beautiful bauble for your own Christmas tree.

Tickets for Into the Woods: A Fairytale Christmas cost £13.50 for children, and £27 for adults, with infants under two going free. Tickets are available to book here.
