A big new steakhouse is coming to York – and it will have river views.
Rio Brazilian Steakhouse is moving in to what was previously home to the Piccolino restaurant on Bridge Street.
The 150-cover restaurant will see Churrasco meat carved at your table by “specially trained gaucho chefs”.
As many diners will remember, Piccolino is a big space to fill. Found on the ground floor of the Boyes building, which dates back to 1912, it has been empty since Piccolino closed in 2021.
A lot of work needs to be done before the steakhouse opens, as our picture of the interior shows.
The people behind the chain, Howard Eggleston and Rodrigo Grassi, say it is likely to be autumn before it opens.
Howard also founded the Tomahawk Steakhouse chain, which opened a York outlet in St Helen’s Square in 2020.
The restaurant will create 50 jobs. They are recruiting now for managers, chefs bar and floor staff. If you are interested, email a cover letter and CV to careers@rio-steakhouse.co.uk.
Rio Brazilian Steakhouses are already open in four cities in the North East, as well as Warrington and Chester. York is one of four set to open in the next few months.
Menus come at a set price – £26.95-£29.95 at lunchtime, or £36.95-£39.95 in the evening. Children up to 12 are charged between £8.95 and £12.50.
For that, you can help yourself at the salad bar, which includes a selection of imported cheeses, cured meats and real Brazilian dishes.
Then you can have as much Churrasco meat carved at your table as you can eat.
Fish, veg and vegan options cost £22.95.
