Popular York attraction Treasurer’s House will reopen next week, after a winter of conservation.

The hidden gem tucked behind York Minster will open its doors from Monday 1 April.

Visitors will once again be able to explore the historic house on the award-winning tours, as well as enjoying the garden and cafe which are free to enter.

The National Trust property is closed over the winter period for a deep clean, as well as an opportunity to carry out any conservation work such as having the clocks serviced or keeping the mirrors gleaming.

By visiting, donating, and buying from the cafe or shop, supporters are contributing to the conservation work of the National Trust to help the charity care for special places like Treasurer’s House.

There will be two tours running at the house. On Monday to Wednesdays plus Saturdays, is the ‘By appointment’ tour which will take you on a journey through the house, where you will learn more about its last owner: 19th century industrialist Mr Frank Green.

On Sundays is the guided tour ‘Turning back time’, which introduces more of the house’s past residents – such as astronomers, politicians, generals and gentry.

Outside, visitors can bask in the beautiful garden under the spectacular view of York Minster, while the cafe downstairs offers a range of freshly baked treats such as seasonal hot cross scones.

Tours last around one hour and run every 15 minutes, and are free to National Trust members and under-fives. Pre-booking is recommended to hold your preferred space or drop in on the day for availability.

For more information and to book your visit to the house, visit the National Trust website or call 01904 62427.
