Police are looking for a man on the run from jail who was last seen heading for York.
James Joseph Smyth, 57, is wanted for having absconded from North Sea Camp prison near Boston, Lincolnshire.
He is serving a sentence for GBH and robbery.
He failed to return at 2pm on Tuesday 30 April, following an agreed temporary release.
Smyth was last seen just after 7.30am that morning, walking along the river in the direction of York city centre.
He is described as
- white
- 6ft 1in
- of slim build
- around 10 stone 1lb in weight
- with long grey-brown hair (occasionally worn in a top knot)
- a long grey beard and moustache
- green eyes.
He has a scar on his nose and left eye lid. He also has a distinctive tattoo on his left wrist with the words ‘Daniel’ and ‘Tracey’, as well as a tattoo of a devil on his right shoulder.
He sometimes wears glasses.
Detective Inspector Mel Rooke of Lincolnshire Police said: “We are appealing for help to locate James Joseph Smyth who is wanted for absconding from North Sea Camp yesterday evening. He is known to have connections with the Leeds, West Yorkshire, area.”
