A huge York hotel will open its doors to its first guests next week.
The new Premier Inn on the corner of Layerthorpe and Foss Islands Road is taking bookings from Monday (17 June).
The four storey £16m hotel was completed by CBRE Investment Management on a one-acre site which formerly housed the Carpetright store.
The company says the hotel has been constructed to high sustainability standards, featuring energy-saving technologies such as air source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and electric vehicle charging points.
Jamie Philips at CBRE said: “We expect growth in the hotels and catering sector to outpace the wider economy during the next five years.

“Tourism supports a significant number of jobs in York and given the strength of the city as a destination for tourists, combined with its current undersupply of hotel beds, the addition of a new modern and sustainable hotel will help to bolster York’s businesses and economy.”
Clegg Construction built the hotel, which was granted planning permission in February 2021.
According to the Premier Inn website, the hotel includes air conditioning, a restaurant and a chargeable car park.
It is taking bookings from Monday, when a Premier Plus room for one adult costs £123. This Friday, the same room costs £151 and on Saturday it costs £193.
