The heady, hippy spirit of the Sixties is revived as York University students stage the Woodstock Festival of live music on Saturday, June 21.
Three stages – indoor, outdoor and acoustic – will host musicians between noon and midnight as students invite everyone to come and join their end of exam celebrations.
More than 40 acts are part of a diverse line up. Bands include Dandy & DeLions, The Gilchrists, Timber Wolf and Leo James.
Based at Vanbrugh College on the university campus, there will be stalls and food and drink available.
York’s version of the Woodstock Festival, which takes its name from the legendary 1969 event in the US, has become a popular annual event since students staged the first one in 1992.
Each year, the university’s RAG society chooses to support a charity through the festival. This year students will be making a difference to those recovering from mental ill health in York by donating the proceeds to York Mind.
“This weekend is set to be a celebration of how music can bring the whole community together in support of those who are struggling with their mental health,” said Holly Pollard, York Mind community fundraiser.
“We are thrilled that University of York students have chosen to fundraise for York Mind through Woodstock Festival and we are only too happy to support them ourselves by enjoying the wide variety of performances.”
