A York boy was subjected to a ‘cowardly’ attack by two teenagers which has left him with damaged vision.

Police have renewed their appeal for information, revealing more details about the assault which happened three weeks ago.

The incident happened on Ridgeway in Acomb at around 5.20pm on Tuesday 3 September.

The victim, a 14-year-old boy, was walking down the street with a friend when he was punched in the face causing injury to his eye. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Both the suspects are male and aged between 14 and 17.

The boy’s grandfather has made a personal appeal on social media. “It’s a busy street, so someone must have seen something,” he said.

“It was a cowardly assault by two older teenagers, one of them hitting him from behind, knocking him unconscious.

“It is believed he was wearing a triangular ring, causing significant damage, including a bleed on his retina, affecting his vision which we’re hoping isn’t permanent.”

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing to any members of the public who were in the area at the time, to cast their minds back to the early evening of Tuesday 3 September and get in touch if they recall seeing the incident involving the teenagers.

“We’re also appealing to anyone who may have been driving past and may still have dashcam footage and to anyone who has any doorbell video footage that may have captured the incident or the suspects on camera, to get in touch.

“We are also appealing to anyone who has any other information that can help to identify the suspects to get in touch.”
