It was one of the most unique pubs in York – but it is about to undergo quite the transition.

As we reported last week, The Maltings on Tanners Moat closed last week, as legendary publicans Shaun and Maxine Collinge moved out after 32 years.

They transformed the former Lendal Bridge Inn into a legendary real ale pub, which went on to win numerous awards.

Ready to move on, they put the pub on the market in July 2023 for £1.5 million.

Now the new owners of the landmark venue have been revealed. It is going to be The Dubliner, an Irish bar.

The business is run by Daniel Van Hymus. He went into the pub business last year, transforming a former nightclub on Newcastle’s Quayside into The Dubliner after being inspired by the pubs in Ireland’s capital.

It has proved a hit with the young people of Newcastle, particularly at weekends.

The venue stages live music seven days a week. It serves up Guinness – what else? – and home-made pies.

Now Daniel is planning to open The Dubliner York in what was The Maltings.

He set up a new company, The Dubliner York Ltd, last month,

And on the new Dubliner York Instagram account, it declares: “We’re bringing The Dubliner to York!

“Live music 7 days-a-week! Taste of Temple Bar on Tanners Moat – 312 steps from York Train Station.”

There are no details yet as to when the new pub will open. When we learn more, we’ll keep you posted.
