A video of a man’s ‘shockingly dangerous’ drive through York has been released after he was sentenced in court.

Scott Anthony Bone, 37, crashed off the road after leading police on a high-speed 15-minute chase.

He failed to stop for police while driving a black Seat Ibiza on Water Lane in the early hours of 9 October 2024 – Bone’s birthday.

That sparked a chase in which he drove well in excess of the speed limit, went through a red light and turned off his car’s lights on unlit sections of road.

The pursuit went took him onto the outer ring road, into Sutton-on-the-Forest and along country lanes towards Strensall.

He then crashed into a field on the outskirts of York.

Bone, who’s from of Ingram Avenue, Clifton, ran from the vehicle, but was soon apprehended and arrested

In custody, he failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, and was found to be in possession of pregabalin tablets that hadn’t been prescribed to him.

Bone pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possessing a class C drug, failing to provide a specimen of breath, and obstructing police.

At York Crown Court today, he was given a 12 month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

He was ordered to undertake drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment, and carry out unpaid work for 280 hours. He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months, and must pay costs and a surcharge totalling £387.

North Yorkshire Police said they won’t tolerate such “shockingly dangerous driving” through York”.

Traffic Sergeant Ryan Lyth, of the roads policing group, said: “Bone’s behaviour was totally unacceptable – we will continue to target and pursue offenders like him who cause a danger on our roads.”
