A York brewery has announced it is opening a new style of venue this spring.

Brew York is launching Brew+Bao in Chapel Allerton, Leeds, in collaboration with YUZU Street Food.

The new venture will occupy the unit formerly home to the Black Sheep Tap & Kitchen on Stainbeck Road.

Renowned for its Asian fusion dishes, YUZU Street Food has been serving Brew York customers across its York venues since 2019.

Now, the duo is teaming up to bring their unique flavours and vibrant atmosphere to Leeds with Brew+Bao, marking the first venture under the brewery’s new ‘Brew+’ brand.

Visitors can expect a selection of over 16 fresh beers at Brew+Bao, with some permanent and rotating options, alongside a handful of Brew York favourites.

The food menu has been curated by the YUZU Street food team, offering dishes that pair perfectly with the craft beers.

Highlights include an extensive range of bao buns, loaded fries, and slides, many of which will be exclusive to the Chapel Allerton location.

The venue boasts seating for 100 indoors, and 80 covers on an outdoor heated terrace, ideal for al fresco drinking and dining as we approach the warmer months.

Brew York managing director, Wayne Smith, said: “We have been searching for the perfect location to launch our first Brew+ venue, and the eclectic and vibrant Chapel Allerton completely won us over.

“It’s the ideal place for our new Brew+Bao concept and we can’t wait to be part of the local community there.

“Together with YUZU we believe we have created a unique beer and food experience, embracing bold flavours and a warm, welcoming atmosphere – something that has always been at the heart of Brew York – and we can’t wait to bring our passion and personality to Leeds.”

The team hopes the refurbishment will be completed by early spring.

The news comes after a fantastic year for the Brew York brand, which recently won the title of the UK’s Best Independent Brewery Taproom at the SIBA Business Awards.

As reported last week, the Brew York Taproom & Beer Hall, Walmgate was praised for its beer garden, vibrant taproom, and unique Bavarian-style Beer Hall at the prestigious awards ceremony.

Earlier this year, Brew York also opened their ‘first real pub’ in the city, having revamped The Old Grey Mare on Clifton Green.

The pub reopened its doors on 21 February, after unexpectedly shutting down and going up for sale last summer.
