A teenager has been arrested after car drove at high speed on the wrong side of the road near York.
The incident began after officers were called to reports of a stolen car from a driveway in Folkton near Scarborough.
The silver Toyota Aventis was taken at about 11am yesterday (Monday).
Police cameras picked up that it had been fitted with false plates and was driving towards York.
After officers caught up with the Toyota, it sped off at high speed.
It approached Grimston Bar roundabout on the wrong side of the road before travelling the wrong way round the roundabout and onto the A64 against the traffic.
The car was driving westwards on the eastbound carriageway.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The driver then abandons the car on the carriageway and flees on foot into a field before being detained by an officer, and is swiftly arrested for burglary, failing to stop and for dangerous driving.
“To make matters worse, on arrival at custody, the suspect racially abuses one of our police officers and is further arrested for racially aggravated public order.
“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with incident and our investigation continues.”
Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident to get in touch.
