Police have acted after mopeds were ridden in a York park this evening (Thursday).
They intervened after the riders were deemed to be putting the public at risk.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This evening we received a number of reports about three mopeds being ridden in the Tang Hall park area of York in an anti-social manner.
“The riders of these vehicles were not wearing helmets and putting people in the park at risk.
A short time later local neighbourhood PCSOs located the vehicles in the Walmgate area and the vehicles were seized using section 59 powers of the Police Reform Act 2002.”
This gives police the powers to seize vehicles being used in a way that causes alarm, distress, or annoyance to the public.
The police spokesperson added: “Parks are a safe place for children and families to play and relax and people should be able to enjoy these spaces without being put in danger.
“All three vehicles were seized using the section 59 power and recovered to a safe place. The owners will be able to recover them after paying for the recovery fees and storage costs.”
