Firefighters are tackling a major fire on Strensall Common this evening.
Dozens of firefighters are at the scene of the blaze, which has sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky.
Crews were called at 3.30pm today (Tuesday).

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews are working hard to try and prevent the fire spreading further.
“We are likely to be at scene for some time and would ask people to avoid the area.”
The smoke can be seen as far afield as Easingwold, Stamford Bridge and the Yorkshire Wolds.

Farmers have been moving the sheep that graze on the common to safety.
North Yorkshire Fire Services has been warning for weeks of the dangers of wildfires given the extended period of warm, dry weather.
It posted earlier this month: “The sun has reappeared, and you might be wanting to make the most of it with a trip to the countryside.
“Please enjoy the beautiful moors and dale sensibly. Don’t have barbecues (or camp fires) on dry grass or moor land.
“Hot coals and stray sparks could cause a wildfire.”
More as we get it.
