Fire crews helped seven people on a drifting cruise boat on the River Ouse yesterday evening, following an engine failure.

It took place at around 6:50 pm near Beningbrough. Firefighters responded by using resources to tie the canal cruising boat onto a tree by the riverbank, to prevent it from drifting further.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson told YorkMix that the incident was ongoing for a couple of hours.

They said, “firefighters ensured it was safe and didn’t freely drift away before leaving the scene.”

Advice was given to those onboard on how to get the boat recovered.
