A well-loved discount retailer has officially opened its fourth location in York today (Thursday).
The Works, a leading value retailer that specialises in gifts, arts, crafts, toys, books, and stationary, has launched a new store at Monks Cross Shopping Park.
The 1,700 sq ft site, located in the former EE unit between Regatta and Pizza Hut, is expected to give a welcome boost to the local economy by creating seven new jobs.
Founded over 40 years ago, The Works now operates 503 stores across the UK and Ireland, including three others in York, two in the city centre and one at the York Designer Outlet.
The new Monks Cross location marks an exciting expansion, with company bosses having their eye on the site “for some time.”
Each of The Works stores is “designed to inspire reading, learning, creativity, and play,” its bosses say. The store is divided into themed zones: books, arts, crafts and hobbies, stationery, and toys and games.
A spokesperson for The Works said: “We are thrilled to be opening a brand-new store in
York at Monks Cross Shopping Park, a hive of retail activity and a location we have
had our eyes on for some time.
“At The Works, our ambition is to become the favourite destination for affordable, screen-free activities for the whole family and our stores play a very important part in this.
