Parents have today been warned about an attempted abduction near a York school.
A message has been sent to parents of children at several schools about the incident today.
It says: “The head teacher at Westfield Primary School has just shared that there has been an attempted abduction outside her school today.
“The child involved is in Key Stage 1 and is, thankfully, unharmed. The incident involved a man whose details have been reported to the police.”
In a letter to parents, Westfield Primary Community School head teacher Lamara Taylor said: “This morning, at drop-off, there was an attempted abduction of one of our pupils on Grange Lane.
“The child involved is thankfully unharmed and is being supported by their family and the school.
“We have spoken with all Year 5 and 6 children to remind them about personal safety when walking to and from school, including how to recognise and respond to situations that may make them feel uncomfortable.
“At all times, we ask parents and carers to continue closely supervising their children to help keep everyone safe.”
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We received reports of a safeguarding incident in the area around Westfield Primary School, York, at around 9.10am this morning.
