It’s confirmed, Ikea is coming to York – with one of its new concept stores opening in the city next month.
YorkMix revealed in March that the Swedish furniture giant was to open a new Plan and Order Point in Clifton Moor Retail Park.
It has taken over the former Jysk furniture store on Stirling Road.
“This marks a significant milestone as Ikea establishes its first presence in the city,” a spokesperson said.
The York branch will open its doors in York at 9am on Friday, 29 August.

Ikea Plan and Order Points are smaller stores, designed to provide customers with bespoke kitchen and storage planning services.
Here, customers can access home furnishing advice from Ikea staff who can help them plan and buy kitchens, bedroom and living room storage.
The Plan and Order Point will also offer a collection area for online orders. Customers can also browse and buy from a range of 100 home furnishing accessories, available for immediate takeaway.
The store will showcase 11 different kitchens, 10 wardrobe solutions and an appliance studio.
Customers will be able to drop-in or book an appointment with one of the six design specialists based in the store, part of a 12-strong York staff.
Products can then be ordered from across the full Ikea range for delivery to the customer’s home, to the Plan and Order Point, or a click and collect location of their choice.

Ikea market manager Conor Doherty said: “We’re excited to bring a touch of Swedish design and smart, affordable home solutions to York.
“Our Plan and Order Points offer the perfect space for customers to create their ideal kitchen or storage setup.
“Beyond planning, these locations also make it easier for those living further from our Hull, Leeds, and Sheffield stores to access our full range, whether they’re shopping for a new sofa, bed, or any other Ikea favourite.”
York Outer MP Luke Charters said: “I’m delighted to welcome Ikea’s new Plan and Order point to York Outer, due to open in August.
“It’s a fantastic addition that makes home design more accessible for local households and will bring good jobs to York. This investment shows Ikea’s commitment to our city and will support both creativity and convenience for York residents.”
Ikea Plan and Order Point York will open Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sundays 11am to 5pm.
