York City returned to the Football League today after eight years. But Wycombe Wanderers spoiled the fairytale, beating the Minstermen 3-1.

Jason Walker scored City’s only goal with an unusual part of his anatomy (see below), giving the crowd of more than 4,500 something to cheer about.

Read Dave Flett’s match report on The Press website. Alternatively, here’s how the game unfolded, thanks to Twitter…

Todays the day, York City back in the football league!! Cant wait, today at BC will be a day I will never forget for the rest of my life….

York City back in the football league today. Good luck. Last night I dreamed they won 9-0 and I scored a hatrick. Hope it comes true.

Reality check. A sound performance but too scrappy, hesitant and at times lazy. It wont cut it in this division. A lesson given, lets learn!

— Dave (@DaveYCFCYCFC) August 18, 2012

Scramble following a city cross and blair can only hook it over his head and the bar. Should have been number 2! 3-1 it remains….

— York City News (@YorkCityNews) August 18, 2012
