A stretch of the A19 south of York was closed due to a gas leak this morning (Sunday, 14 July).

It was shut between the villages of Burn and Chapel Haddlesey, near Selby.

North Yorkshire Police posted: “Utility services are at the scene and working to fix the leak.

Road closure location

“The road is expected to be closed for a number of hours.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.”

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At the police’s request, both Selby appliances and a specialist officer were mobilised following a report from Transco of gas pipes either side of the road venting off.

“Fire crews liaised with Transco at scene, but were not required. Police were closing road at scene.”

The road has since reopened.
