Police in York were called to the River Ouse near Millennium Bridge at 3.15pm on Saturday 19 January 2013 after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the river.
North Yorkshire Police can confirm that the man’s body, which was recovered from the River Ouse in York on the afternoon of Saturday 19 January 2013, has been identified as Christopher Baker, the 29-year-old York man who has been missing since he was last seen climbing over Skeldergate Bridge in York on 20 December 2012.
Inspector Mark Henderson of York Police said: “Sadly the search for Chris has ended with very distressing news for his loved ones. Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and colleagues as they try to come to terms with his death at this very sad and traumatic time.
“We now ask that his family’s privacy is respected and they are allowed to grieve in peace.”
Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Chris’ death.
North Yorkshire Police would like to thank members of the public and the media for their support with the appeals to help locate Chris.
