York based property developer Yorvik Homes has helped a local sports club in need.

The ground at Whitley Bridge Cricket Club, in Eggborough, Selby, was damaged when travellers parked there this summer.

Since the travellers were evicted, work has started to restore the ground and its facilities with support from individuals and local businesses. A crowdfunding page was launched which has to date raised £1,255.

And Yorvik Homes has pitched in by buying the club a new lawnmower.

Making a difference

With a development of 54 homes in the village of Eggborough – only a short walk away from the Club, Yorvik contacted Selby Garden Machinery who supplied the lawnmower at a discounted price to support the recovery of the ground together.

Yorvik Homes sales executive Marie Thompson who lives in the village said:

  • I was thrilled that Yorvik Homes were able to support the club by purchasing the lawnmower.

As a local myself, it was really upsetting to see the ground being vandalised. It plays such an important part in our community and I am glad that we were able to make a difference.

Back to its best

Treasurer and secretary of Whitley Bridge Cricket Club Andrew Papworth said: “We are really grateful to Yorvik Homes and Selby Garden Machinery for their generous support in the aftermath of the damage that was caused to our ground.

“The cricket ground is hugely important to the village and is used by a lot of young people – to see them missing out on playing cricket this summer as a result of the careless actions of others was very upsetting.

“With the support of companies like Yorvik and Selby Garden Machinery, and the local community we will soon be back to our best and look forward to a successful season next year.”
