A man has been arrested after a boy was robbed at knifepoint in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

A 15-year-old boy was threatened by a man with a knife who stole his Moncler coat.

Police appealed for information earlier today (Friday).

This afternoon, they gave this update: “As a result of the appeal, this afternoon we have a arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the incident.

“He is currently in police custody for questioning.”

Boy robbed at knifepoint in ‘very concerning and serious’ incident

Police are investigating a ‘very concerning and serious’ incident in which a boy was robbed at knifepoint on Boxing Day.

It happened at around 9.20pm yesterday (26 December) in the Low Street / Low Garth Road area of Sherburn-in-Elmet.

A 15-year-old boy was threatened by a man with a knife who stole his Moncler coat.

The suspect is described as

  • about 19
  • of mixed race
  • around 5ft 10in tall
  • of skinny build
  • and with dark curly hair.

He was also described as having a distinctive Japanese tattoo on the right side of his neck, possible resembling the letters ‘KAN’.

Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Page of York and Selby CID, said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to locate the suspect and I am appealing to residents and businesses in the area who may have doorbell video or private CCTV in the area that may have captured the suspect on camera along with anyone who was driving past the area and may have dashcam footage of the suspect.

“This was a very concerning and serious incident and where a young person has been threatened with a knife.

“Please get in touch if you have any information that can assist our investigation, including any sightings or knowledge of a man that matches the suspect’s description.”
