Grants are now available for creative people in Ryedale.

Ryedale District Council is inviting small organisations and freelancers in the arts sector to apply for a grant of up to £1,000 to support a project.

The grant scheme aims to support those whose work addresses community health and wellbeing, celebration of place, digital creativity, or climate change awareness.

Following a successful round of grants in the last two years, the council is holding a final round of small arts grants before the authority ceases to exist with the creation of the new North Yorkshire Council in April 2023.

Phillip Spurr, director of place and resources at the council said:

The last two years have seen this grant scheme support some fantastic projects across the district.

The arts sector was hit particularly hard by Covid-19 and the diversity of the projects the small arts grants have supported goes to show the value there is in the council supporting cultural endeavours in our community.

I would encourage any artists or organisations working in Ryedale to apply to this year’s scheme and I look forward to seeing the projects we support.

Previous projects supported by the scheme included a regional artists’ networking event, an oral history project around Pigeon Club members in Kirkbymoorside, and 14 early years music classes.

Artists, freelancers, community interest companies and arts-related charities based in and working in Ryedale are all encouraged to apply.

All proposed activity must take place within Ryedale and be completed by the end of March 2023. Organisations and individuals based outside of the district may apply but the council will give priority to those who are Ryedale-based.

Those interested in applying can find out more information and apply online here.
