A fire broke out at a York nature reserve this afternoon (Sunday).

Firefighters were called to Strensall Common at 12.46pm to a fire in a fallen tree.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Camp site personnel assisted in breaking up the tree and using buckets of water, with fire crews using a knap sack sprayer.”

The fire is now out.

It comes less than three months after a dozen fire crews tackled a major blaze at Strensall Common, which left a huge area of the reserve scorched.
