Minor changes will be made to The Groves traffic scheme.
And the council has reviewed some of the other temporary road changes, which were rolled out across the city in response to the pandemic.
Trial road closures in The Groves were launched in September. They were welcomed by many residents but did attract criticism from some road users.
City of York Council has now adjusted the scheme following comments from residents and the emergency services.
The road closure on St John’s Crescent has been moved to the junction with Garden Street, where removable bollards will be installed to allow emergency services to reach roads off Garden Street and St John Street.
About 2.4 metres of on-street parking on both sides of St John Street near the junction with Garden Street will be removed to create more space for vehicles to turn.
The road block at Neville Terrace/Park Grove and Brownlow Street will be repositioned to prevent drivers from using routes between Neville Terrace, Eldon Terrace and Amber Street to get around the closures.
The parking bay next to 25 Neville Terrace will be removed to enable emergency service vehicles to get through. And pay and display charges for spaces near shops on Lowther Street and outside the Londis on Townend Street will be scrapped for six months.
More changes
Separately, at a council transport meeting on Tuesday, Cllr Andy D’Agorne reviewed measures to encourage walking and cycling in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Coppergate one way restriction will be extended and could be made permanent following a consultation.
The meeting heard that cutting the traffic improves the street for shops, cyclists and pedestrians – but could also help cut pollution on the route, which is on an air quality watch list.
The temporary cycle lane at Castle Mills Bridge in Tower Street will be removed because it has not been well-used. But under the Castle Gateway scheme the lane could become a bus and cycle priority route.
And the cycle lanes on Bootham will be upgraded – with a consultation launched on plans to extend the cycle route along the rest of Shipton Road to the Park&Ride.
