It may have been held way back in December 2019 – but at long last the organisers of York’s Annual Community Carol Concert were able to present local charities with donations totalling £6,700.

Due to lockdown and restrictions imposed it had not been convenient to have a suitable presentation within the last 17 months.

However, recently, at the new York Against Cancer offices at Monks Cross, the then Lord Mayor of York Janet Looker received £2,500 towards the Lord Mayor and Sheriff of York’s Christmas Cheer Fund.

Other donations were

  • York Hospital Radio – £1,000
  • York Against Cancer – £2,500
  • the York Normandy Veterans Window Appeal – £500
  • Yorkshire Air Ambulance – £100
  • and St Leonard’s Hospice – £100.

Sadly, due to Covid-19, the 2020 carol concert had to be cancelled, but organisers are now working closely with York Barbican and are very hopeful that this year’s carol concert will go ahead on Sunday 12 December with a 2pm start.

All participants from the 2020 concert have been re-invited to appear this year, which includes: Shepherd Group Concert Brass Band, Dringhouses Primary School Choir, Clifton Green Primary School Choir, Stamford Bridge Community Choir and Steve Cassidy along with joint hosts Rev Andrew Foster and BBC Radio York’s Adam Tomlinson.

Dependent on government guidelines, tickets will go on sale in September at the York Barbican box office.
