Councillor Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: “Last weekend of 15 and 16 December 2012, 180,980 visitors came to the city centre, beating the figure for 11-12 December 2010 of 165,629, by 15,351.
“I was delighted with the extra features and reach of this year’s festival, and feedback from the record number of city centre visitors indicates they had a great time too.”
The festival was the first that City of York Council has been involved in organising with local retailers. The council recruited, trained and deployed over a dozen stewards and organised a wide range of street performers to add to the mix of entertainment.
A competition for photographs taken by festival goers posing in front of the posters of angel wings was held and the winner has been sent a pair of two-day passes, courtesy of Visit York.
