You’ve heard of the bread of heaven – now you can try the cakes of York Minster. Visitors in need of something more than mere spiritual sustenance can buy cupcakes from a vintage caravan parked in the Minster’s Dean’s Park.
The team behind Crumbs Cupcakery, who run a tea room in College Street, have converted the 1970s candy pink caravan into a compact catering concession.
As well as cakes, the van sells ice cream and hot and cold drinks. It will be positioned in Dean’s Park, close to the West Front of the Minster, from 10am to 5pm every day until November 2.
Traditional deckchairs are also being provided for customers of Crumbs On The Road.
There isn’t any room inside the Minster itself for catering, explained events manager, Stephanie O’Gorman.
“We’re confident that our visitors will be happy to enjoy the superb cakes and treats available from the Crumbs team just outside the West Door,” she said.
The caravan, nicknamed Flo, is the brainchild of Crumbs Cupcakery owner Danielle Goodhand.
She will bake the cupcakes fresh each day at the College Street café, using locally-sourced ingredients, from free-range eggs from a Driffield farm to coffee by Taylors of Harrogate.
“Within the Cupcakery, we try and make everyone that walks through the door feel as if we are welcoming them to our house, so we’re hoping that we can make our caravan in Dean’s Park feel like we’re sharing a fantastic day out,” says Danielle.
“Let’s just hope that the sun shines so that everyone can enjoy this beautiful setting for their tasty treats.”
