If you’re in the market for a city centre sugar rush, we have some excellent news.

Doughnut specialists Krispy Kreme are planning to open a shop on Coney Street.

The company has applied for planning permission to install its sign on number 4 Coney Street, most recently occupied by Candy Hero.

Sweet times

How it will look, according to plans submitted to City of York Council

According to its application, Krispy Kreme wants the new fascia signs up from August 1 – suggesting a possible opening date.

But despite this documentary evidence of their intentions, the company is staying coy about the store.

Head of marketing at Krispy Kreme UK Charlotte Roberts would only say this: “We are actively looking to bring the joy of Krispy Kreme to new locations across the UK soon.

“Nothing is confirmed at this stage, but we will keep our fans updated as and when we secure sites.”

And how it used to look as Candy Hero

US-based Krispy Kreme first opened its doors on July 13, 1937. Now it has more than 1,000 stores worldwide.

It celebrated the 80th anniversary of its signature glazed doughnut on July 14.

This will be the second branch of the chain to open in York. One opened at York Designer Outlet in November 2016.

Its first customer was rewarded with a Krispy Kreme Gold Card, entitling her to share a complimentary double dozen every month for a year.

Krispy Kreme stores stock 16 varieties of doughnuts. The range varies to include new flavours and toppings along with the staples. A typical price is £9.95 for a glazed dozen.
